"Handling two little kids while trying my best to move on with my life, I almost gave up".
Kia Ora! My name is Zahidah. I am a student from Segi College and I'm currently studying Psychology. I'm 26 years old and a single mother of two. I'm got divorced during pandemic and it was tough. I was lost. Handling two little kids while trying my best to move on with my life, I almost gave up. Almost every single day, I have these weird suicidal thoughts. So I went to seek professional help.
I've been diagnosed with MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) and been prescribed with medications. I have monthly appointments at the Psychiatric Clinic. After 3-4 appointments, I've was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. If you have mood swing disorders, the way you handle something like divorce or breakups really torture you. For 8 months, I'm trying my best to stay positive.
How do I stay positive?
First, you need to appreciate your life. I know sometimes we feel worthless but if you still have your parents, just appreciate the little things. I have kids, two beautiful kids, I won't let them down.
Second, self love. Self love is important. The time you dedicate to loving yourself more is very important and I'm pampering myself with good food, taking care of my skin and hair, having me time by checking in at the hotel to clear my mind, and I just won't let anyone trigger my mental health anymore.
Third, set a goal. I really wanted to be a Psychologist in the future. It's important to give support to those who are going through a divorce or breakup as well. They just need loads of support to keep them positive. Crying is okay, it doesn't show them as a weak person. Happiness is a choice, it all starts with YOU.
